The first piece "Cardboard millipede, walking cycle" (millipede in studio), shows a behind the scenes view of the animation process. It’s a walking cycle consisting out of 6 painted millipedes on cardboard, that make the character come to life.
Each frame is painted on 3 separate cardboard pieces, and form a 6 meter long millipede. Working with replacements, and a digital photo camera, the animation has been recorded in a traditional stop-motion style.
The second piece "Cardboard millipede, motion walk" (millipede in garage), shows the character moving in motion. In a delicate process, the cardboard millipede is brought to life by photographing the replacements. Taking it to the next levels the artist spend a great amount of time on the details on the characters body, which have been hand drawn with a white paint marker. The millipede has been a returning character in his work, the beautiful motion of hundreds of legs is what inspired the artist to bring this character to life.
